Hey Cowboy, Wanna Get Lucky? is Baxter Black's tale of Lick and Cody, 2 rodeo cowboys. In their quest to qualify for the National Finals (the Super Bowl of rodeo), thus furnishing a plot, Lick and Cody expose themselves to considerable adventure and philosophical examination - along with a modest smattering of sex, violence, intrigue, and the occasional philosophical rumination, or two.

From 1965 to 1984, the National Finals were held in Oklahoma City. It was a golden time, when rodeo was populated with colorful, hard-ridin', hard playin' riders of the purple sage.

Black's story is set near the end of this time, when the contestants, though professionals, were still thought of as cowboys. Cody and Lick, 2 chivalrous knights of the rope and range, arrive with a hankering for bucking bulls and females of the 2-legged species - and find much more than they bargained for.

Against this flamboyant backdrop, Cody and Lick compete in the roughstock events, specializing in bull riding - and encounter a city woman named Lilac who makes history with Cody; a bull named Kamikaze; and 2 corrupt Texas billionaires who bet against Lick.
