George Packer has been a staff writer for The New Yorker since 2003. That year, his pieces "War after the War" and "The Children of Freetown" each won an Overseas Press Club award. He is the author of The Village of Waiting and Blood of the Liberals and is the editor of The Fight Is for Democracy: Winning the War of Ideas in America and the World.Ken Adelman, a former U.N. Ambassador and director of the U.S. Arms Control and Disarmament Agency during the Reagan Administration, is currently a member of the Defense Policy Board. He has worked for Donald Rumsfeld three times since 1970. He has been national editor of Washingtonian magazine for 15 years and is the author of several books. Mark Danner has been a contributor since 1990. That year, his three-part series of articles on Haiti won the National Magazine Award for Reporting. The December 6, 1993, issue of the magazine was devoted entirely to his piece "The Truth of El Mozote", which won an Overseas Press Club Award and was the basis of his book The Massacre at El Mozote: A Parable of the Cold War. His new book is The Road to Illegitimacy: What Really Happened in the 2000 Florida Vote Re-Count. David Frum's books include The Right Man: The Surprise Presidency of George W. Bush and What's Right: The New Conservative Majority and the Remaking of America. From January 2001 to February 2002, he was special assistant to the President for economic speechwriting. He is a resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, a columnist for the National Review Online, and a panelist on NPR's Left, Right, and Center. Katha Pollitt writes the Subject to Debate column for The Nation, where she has been a contributor since 1980.
