On July 11, 1952, Dwight D. Eisenhower accepted the Republican nomination for president. In his acceptance speech, General Eisenhower promises that he will rage "a great crusade" to "total victory" over President Harry S Truman's Democratic administration, which he calls wasteful, arrogant, corrupt, and too long in power. The general and his running mate, California Senator Richard Milhous Nixon, would ultimately lead their party to an easy victory over Democratic opponent Governor Adlai E. Stevenson of Illinois.
